Edgework Power Skating School

The ability to skate well is the foundation that all hockey players need if they want to succeed at any level of hockey. As players get older, their poor skating mechanics will hinder them and they will not be able to keep up with the pace of play at the next level.

“Underspeed skating” is my terminology to define the process of learning to skate correctly before learning to skate faster. A combination of proper skating techniques and overspeed training will then provide a stronger foundation for success. It is essential to develop the proper techniques at an early age because bad habits are very difficult to correct as the skater gets older. We cover the fundamentals of skating and then progress to more advanced skills in each session.

Edgework Power Skating and Skills is based on the idea that players who have developed the proper skating techniques will be better players. In order to develop the correct techniques it is essential to get training in small groups where the player can receive quality instruction and have hundreds of quality repetitions of each skill. We have expanded the programs to incorporate passing and stick handling skills which are so important for successfully playing the game.

The programs are offered ocasionally in the spring and fall. A one week camp is offered each June for the players of Providence Academy and any others who wish to participate. Former NHL defender Jim Johnson is a partner in the summer camp program.

Next program will be summer 2010
